CWA RESPONDS TO RECORD THAMES WATER FINE

28/05/2025

Commenting on the announcement of a record fine on Thames Water for breaches of rules relating to its wastewater operations, Gordon Balmer, Executive Director of the Car Wash Association (CWA), said:

“The Car Wash Association welcomes the record fine imposed on Thames Water for their failure to comply with the rules.

“In the past, we have seen these water companies get away with violations of the law with little consequence. This has a cascading effect and has seen many non-compliant hand car washes follow suit by dumping dangerous chemicals down public drains without fear of legal action.

“We hope that the Government’s crackdown is the start of a determined enforcement campaign designed eradicate environmental non-compliance.”
